[Press Release] Code of Conduct for visitors implemented at SPCA Ouest

A response to a serious altercation with the public that threatened staff and volunteers

Vaudreuil-Dorion— March 7th, 2019 — The SPCA Ouest implemented today its new Code of Conduct regulating the interactions between visitors, staff and volunteers visiting the shelter and offices. This new code of conduct was developed on the behest of the Sûreté du Québec after concluding an investigation regarding an altercation that took place between visitor and staff of the SPCA Ouest. The investigation dismissed the SPCA Ouest and its staff of any wrong doing and emphasize the need to clarify that abusive actions will not be tolerated. The altercation took place at the offices of the SPCA Ouest, located on Route de la Cité des Jeunes on February 26, 2019, which resulted in the arrest of a visitor who uttered threats to the staff on site.

We stand against all types of abuse, be it to the animals of our community, as well as to the volunteers and staff who help us work towards our mission daily. At the SPCA Ouest, we believe that our guests, volunteers and staff have a right to have their physical and psychological integrity respected. As such, cannot tolerate any manifestation of violence, be it verbal or physical. We are a strong and dedicated team who serve our community and our furry friends who cannot help themselves, with passion and compassion” explained Mr. Remi Brazeau, Director of the SPCA Ouest.

The SCPA Ouest, a non-profit organization present in the Vaudreuil-Dorion community since 2013, is a No-Kill shelter for animals. It provides services of rescue, shelter and rehabilitation of animals, through the generosity of donors, regardless of the animals’ breed or current health condition.
