Spoil your kitty with these homemade recipes

Last week we gave you yummy recipes for homemade dog meals and treats. This week let’s shift the focus to our feline friends!

As we know our beloved kitty cats can be picky eaters so here are some meal and treat ideas that are sure to delight!

Making your own cat food is an exacting and time-consuming business. Striking the right balance of ingredients, including vitamins and minerals, and properly storing the food are critical for a happy and healthy animal.

As obligate carnivores, cats need:

Protein from meat or fish
Amino acids like taurine and arginine (from meat or fish)
Fatty acids
Vitamins
Minerals
Water

Carbohydrates like rice and corn in small amounts are fine, but they aren’t necessary for a cat’s diet.

So without further ado here are some recipes to make homemade meals and treats for the special kitty cat in your life:

Chicken Gravy Recipe for Cats
Source: https://www.goingevergreen.org/

Many pet owners find it easier to please the palate of picky eaters by using healthy gravy as a topping. Here is a great recipe!

Ingredients

Chicken liver – quarter cup
Mixture of chicken gizzard and heart – half a cup
Water – 2 cups
All-purpose flour – 2 tbsp.
Salt – quarter tsp.

Directions

Boil the chicken parts in the water until it is tender.
Remove the chicken and chop them while keeping the stock aside.
Take a saucepan and pour the stock, the flour, the meat and salt and keep cooking over low heat while stirring from time to time until the gravy is thick.
You can, optionally, blend this in a blender to make a puree and preserve them as ice cubes for a longer period of time.

A super simple meal your cat will adore!

Ingredients
1/2 pound ground meat (chicken, beef, lamb or turkey are fine)
1/4 cup rice
1 large hard-boiled egg
4 teaspoons olive oil
1 cup chicken stock

Directions
Mash the boiled egg.
Place all the ingredients into a saucepan and bring to the boil over a medium-low heat.
When the stock is boiling, reduce the heat and simmer gently for 20 minutes or until the stock reduces. The rice will expand and swell and absorb much of the liquid.
Remove your homemade cat food mixture from the heat and allow it to cool completely.
Blend the mixture in a food processor until all the ingredients are mashed together.
Place into an air-tight container and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Homemade cat treats are super simple to make and super fun for your cat!

Ingredients

10 oz canned salmon undrained
1 egg beaten
2 cups whole wheat flour
Small Fish-Shaped Cookie Cutters (optional)

Directions
Heat oven to 350°. Pulse 10 oz canned salmon (undrained) in a food processor and chop as finely as possible.
In a stand mixer, combine salmon, 1 egg (beaten) and 2 cups whole wheat flour until dough forms. If dough is too dry, add up to 1/3 cup water. If dough is too wet or sticky, add a bit more flour. Dough should be tacky but not sticky.
Roll out dough on a floured surface until about 1/4 inch thick. Use a 3/4-inch cookie cutter in the shape of your choice to create your treats.
Place treats on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 350° for about 20 minutes. When they’re slightly browned and crunchy, they’re done.
